Requirements
You will need to be
  • a certified PADI Adventure Diver (including wreck adventure) or PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or have a qualifying certification from another approved training organisation
  • the minimum of 15 years old
  • in reasonable health but you do not need to be an athlete! (You will be required to fill in a medical statement and questionnaire)

Dive Equipment Requirements

  • Full length suits for abrasion and cut protection including gloves, to minimise the possibility of cuts due to contact with a wreck
  • Complete instrumentation - method of determining depth, time and direction
  • Dive tool or knife - capable of cutting line, particularly monofilament and rope
  • Slate an pencil - for wreck mapping
  • Dive Lights - primary and backup

Certification
The PADI Wreck Speciality Course is designed to an introduction to wreck diving and to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for safe wreck diving including:
  • the planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of wreck diving
  • the preparation and use of lights, air supplies, special equipment, penetration lines and reels
  • limited-visibility diving techniques and emergency procedures

During this course you will also be given an introduction into the historical value of wrecks, social and legal issues surrounding that value, and described some of wreck diving's implications, including the pro's and con's of removing artefacts from wrecks.

This certification mean's you are qualified to:
  1. Plan, organise, make and log recreational dives on wrecks in conditions generally comparable to or better than those you're trained in.
  2. Make limited penetration dives into suitable wrecks, staying within the natural light zone and not penetrating more than 40 linear metres/ 130 linear feet from the surface.

What we provide
The PADI Wreck Speciality Diver course requires you to learn about diving by a mixture of knowledge development and open water diving. Liquid Divers can guarantee the maximum class size of 4 students (unless by prior agreement). All of this course will be completed within the UK.

Knowledge Development

  • Course manual and related materials for home study including support as required during this period by a PADI Instructor.
  • We recommend you give yourself 2-4 weeks to read the manual and complete the quick quiz’s and knowledge review part 1 and 2 questionnaires in a relaxed way.
  • A focused review of what you have studied, including question and answer sessions and a review of your knowledge review questionnaires in a comfortable environment.
  • Wreck diving presentation including a briefing on the following topics
    • Reasons and opportunities for wreck diving
    • Wreck diving and the law
    • Wreck diving hazards
    • Wreck diving techniques
    • Researching underwater wrecks
    • Mapping Shipwrecks
    • Wreck penetration equipment
    • Wreck diving limits
    • Basic wreck penetration techniques

Open Water Dives

  • 4 open water dives taken over a period of two days completed as either:
    • 2 days from along the South Coast (Liquid Divers preferred option but is weather depend)
    • 1 day at one of the UK’s leading training sites & 1 day diving from the South Coast
  • During these dives you will put in to practise the skills you have learnt about during the knowledge development.
    • Dive 1 - The first training dive develops your familiarity with the wreck environment and methods of navigation on a wreck.
    • Dive 2 - The second training dive develops wreck mapping skills and your ability to evaluate a wreck for penetration potential.
    • Dive 3 - The third training dive allows you practise wreck penetration skills in open water on the outside of a wreck.
    • Dive 4 - The fourth dive gives you the following options:
      • Option A - On the fourth training dive, you'll make an actual penetration dive accompanied by your instructor.
      • Option B - On the fourth training dive, you'll practise and apply what you've learned by planning and making a wreck dive independently.

Payment Terms

All course fees can be paid in full at the point booking or we will require:

  • a non refundable initial payment of £175.00 when placing your booking, at which time you will receive all the required course materials and your site entrance/boat places will be booked.
  • the final payment of the outstanding balance the minimum of 14 days prior to the course start.
